You may still get the Android Q/EMUI 10 update on Huawei and Honor devices

Huawei and Honor users can still install the Android 10 Q based EMUI 10 update, despite all of the difficulty surrounding Huawei’s relationship with Google and its continued use of the company’s mobile software and apps.

Why I am saying this, read below:

“Keeping phones up to date and secure is in everyone’s best interests and this temporary license allows us to continue to provide software updates and security patches to existing models for the next 90 days,” Google spokesperson said.

Let’s make it clear what it means to “everyone” – the statement clearly added “software updates” and “security patches” to existing models for the next 90 days.

Let’s go back to the past. Huawei announced Android 9.0 Pie-based EMUI 9.0 at IFA 2018 in September in Berlin. For your information, Google officially announced the final release of Android 9.0 under the title “Pie” on August 6, 2018. We could see the same pattern this year too.

Google has released the third Android Q beta update. You can expect the final version of the Android 10 Q in early August 2019, just like last year, according to Google’s official developer beta timeline. It means the official Android 10 Q could come before the end date of the temporary license, which is August 19.

After the official announcement of the Android 10 Q – the Chinese company can release it anytime for its existing devices whenever it plans.

We are not finished yet we have more:

Huawei is trying hard for its device owners, according to the latest report, Huawei EU chief, Abraham Liu, said on Tuesday that the company is working with Google in response to trade restrictions imposed by the US.

“They (Google) have zero motivation to block us. We are working closely with Google to find out how Huawei can handle the situation and the impact from the U.S. Department of Commerce decision,” he said.

Do you need more:

Huawei’s own statement promises to continue providing “security updates” for current devices.

Here are the final words:

I personally think that Huawei and the United States will resolve the current issue very soon. The US Commerce Department said it will evaluate whether to continue the exemptions beyond 90 days.

Existing Huawei devices will continue to receive Android updates (at least Android Q release or August 19, 2019), but it appears that future Huawei devices (Huawei Mate 30 series) will either use a different OS or a limited version of Android (Chinese EMUI OS).
