Will Honor phones use HarmonyOS? Here’s the answer

Following the launch of the HarmonyOS AKA Hongmeng OS mobile beta, many of our readers asked, will Honor will use HarmonyOS for its smartphone even after partition among both companies? At that time we have not an answer to this question but today we have one.

At a media interview on the sidelines of Honor V40, George Zhao, CEO of Honor said it depends on the open-source progress of Hongmeng OS. Although Honor is born from Huawei, it will also follow the industry’s business cooperation rules.

He further added that the future operating system on Honor smartphones will be different, open-source, and will be the best one. However, he didn’t mention any specifics on this matter.

HarmonyOS is a new microkernel-based, distributed operating system designed to deliver a diverse user experience across all devices and scenarios.

Last year, Huawei introduced its latest 2.0 version of the HarmonyOS with extended platform support at Huawei Developer Conference 2020. The latest version also supports smartphones and the company announced that it’ll be launch a HarmonyOS powered smartphone in 2021.

In December 2020, Huawei launched the mobile developer beta of the HarmonyOS for smartphones including Huawei P40, Mate 30 and MatePad Pro devices. Simultaneously, the company began the recruitment and rolled out the beta build for testing.

Aside from this, existing users of Honor devices that were launched ahead of Huawei and Honor partition, such as Honor V30 and Honor 30 as well as other smartphones equipped with Kirin chipsets likely to get a slot in HarmonyOS but there’s no confirmation on this matter at the moment.
