WhatsApp is preparing a new security feature that will usernames safer via PIN support. After several privacy tools, the company is working on a useful addition that will make a person’s account in the chat application more secure than ever.

Spotted in the Android beta 2.24.18.2 version, WhatsApp is rolling out a “Usernames PIN support” feature. The latest capability is available to a few beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program. Although it will soon reach other users in the time ahead.

The company has already introduced a feature that allows users to make a unique username for better privacy. Now WhatsApp is enhancing this tool to more extent with PIN support. As the name suggests, it will enable users to lock their usernames.

In other words, users don’t have to share their contact numbers with their contacts or other people. One can easily message you if they have your accurate username.

As a result, users would be able to choose from their phone numbers of the username for a medium of interaction with their contacts. Note that those who already have your phone number can continue to use that. Although you can start new conversations via your username.

The next useful tool is a PIN Code. Users can set a PIN of four digits and share them with people they are comfortable with. The PIN application will ask for two-step verification. Hence, share the PIN at your own risk.

How this PIN will help? Your contacts will require a PIN to contact you on your username for the first time. Once done, they will automatically link up with you in the future. However, those who are already in the conversations won’t require PIN support.
