WhatsApp to make file transfer easier with an AirDrop-like feature
WhatsApp is trying to make an AirDrop-like file transfer feature. The company is testing the latest capability and pushed it out to some beta testers via the TestFlight Beta Program. Perhaps a stable release could appear in the upcoming days.
Found in the WhatsApp 24.15.10.70 iOS beta, the company is working on a new ‘file transfer’ feature. With this capability, users will be able to share media content like images, audio, and videos with others without any active internet connection.
The company has already prepared such a feature for the Android version. Now it’s time for iOS device users to obtain this significant feature and make file-sharing easier. Although there is a major difference between both these versions.
WhatsApp Android enables users to transfer files with only nearby devices. However, the new WhatsApp iOS beta shows a QR Code to share files with others. This feature appears better, safer, and more efficient as only intended users can access it.
Good news is that this feature will likely work on both Android and iOS devices, facilitating users with cross-platform file sharing. Instead of looking at various methods to share large files, now you can opt for a quick scan and transfer your content.
It is a useful function as it won’t require any internet connection. WhatsApp has started rolling out the new capability to limited users at present. With proper development, the company will soon roll it out to general consumers.
