WhatsApp to introduce a call-link shortcut for group chats

WhatsApp now aims to make the group chats more efficient with a call-link shortcut. The company will soon enable users to generate and send call links within a chat. Doing so will make the conversations safer and more interactive for group members.

The company is rolling out the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.19.14 version that brings the call-link shortcut. Although this build is only available to beta testers. One can enroll in Google Play Beta Program to access new features ahead of stable releases.

Call-link isn’t a new addition to WhatsApp. Earlier, users were able to send call links to their contacts. However, it has been a lengthy process involving the Calls section > New Call or Group Call > Create a call link > Select the call type > Send or Share.

As of now, WhatsApp has simplified the call-link tool for group chats. It will allow group members to initiate a call without ringing or disturbing every person in the group. The link feature will further let users join the call as per their preference.

To access this feature, users can directly tap on the chat attachment icon in the group chat and click on the “Create Call Link” feature. It is useful for times when not every member of the group is available to pick up the call.

The new WhatsApp feature is currently available to limited users but it will soon be rolled out widely via a stable release.
