WhatsApp to bring double-tap gesture for reaction tray
WhatsApp is testing a new double-tap gesture for the reaction tray. As per the details, the app users will soon be able to access the reaction bar more easily with a new gesture feature. Just tap twice to open the reaction tray while chatting.
Spotted in the Android beta 2.24.24.24 version, WhatsApp is rolling out the double-tap gesture for the reaction tray via the Google Play Beta Program. It is currently available to limited beta testers. But the company will soon expand it to more users.
The reaction tray in WhatsApp Chats is similar to Instagram. Holding a particular message for some time opens the reaction tray. One can choose the given emojis or click the “+” icon to use any other emoticon from the emoji section.
Although this “long-pressing message” often seems irritating. Especially, when you want to quickly respond to a person via a reaction. Hence, the company is adopting a useful change that will let you access the reaction tray faster than before.
The double-tap gesture will enable users to open the reaction tray within a few seconds. Instead of holding and pressing a particular message, you can simply tap on it twice to open the reaction tray and pick your preferred emoticon.
Good news is that if you are already comfortable with the previous method then you can continue to use it. WhatsApp won’t replace the old option with the double-tap gesture.
WhatsApp is rolling out the new feature to beta testers at the moment. But it will soon be available to the general public through a stable release.
