WhatsApp to bring a new ‘description’ feature for community groups
WhatsApp is testing a new “Description” feature for Community groups. As the term suggests, this addition will enable admins to add relevant or small info about the group’s purpose or rules and regulations that should be followed by members.
A description feature is already available in the normal group chats. The tool allows you to add a brief text as the introduction or an overview of the group. It remains visible to group members and other people invited to the respective group.
Now the company is bringing this functionality to other sections of the app. Spotted in the Android beta 2.24.16.12 version, WhatsApp is rolling out description prompts for Community groups. The update is available via the Google Play Beta Program.
Group Description is appearing as an optional feature in Community. It asks participants to describe what their group is about and helps people know what to expect or whether to join the group. One can add guidelines for better interaction.
This development indicates that WhatsApp is enhancing the Community experience for users. As mentioned, the feature is already available to the normal chat groups. However, it has been missing for the community groups.
