WhatsApp testing a redesigned preview feature for status updates
WhatsApp has dispatched a new beta update for Android devices which shows a redesigned status preview feature. By the term, the new addition to the app will enable users to peek into their contacts’ status updates without actually opening them.
Spotted in the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.14.2 version, the company is working on a redesigned status preview functionality. Being a beta build, the feature is currently available to limited beta testers on Android devices via the Google Play Beta Program.
The current status updates page shows rectangular icons with a glance of status in it. However, the company has changed this look with the newest beta version. As of now, users will be able to see the status via the thumbnail present on the right side of the screen.
Channel subscribers will see the new status updates in a horizontal format. This will ensure that both channels and the status section remain clear and well-arranged at all times.
In case you don’t follow any Channels, WhatsApp is bringing a vertical list for your status updates section. This will show a tiny rectangular frame on the right side, where you will get some hints about what one has posted on their status.
A major difference between the current and previous status updates preview is the profile picture. Earlier, the company replaced the display picture with a huge rectangular preview box. This ultimately created confusion as users were unable to identify their contacts.
But now you would be able to see both the display pictures as well as the status preview of your contacts. The latest update is rolling out to some testers but will be available to the general public in the coming days.
