WhatsApp testing a new notification activity feature for group chats
WhatsApp is readying a new notification activity feature for group chats. The latest addition is currently in the development phase. It is available to some beta testers on Android devices. The company will soon roll it out to the general app users.
Spotted in the WhatsApp Android beta 2.24.21.22 version, the company has released the notification activity feature to limited users. One can check the current update or explore new features and tools in advance via the Google Play Beta Program.
The company has been testing several alert-based features for status updates and other sections of the app. Such alerts are sent automatically to users for an un-viewed status. Now the app is enhancing the notification to a greater extent with the new beta.
Inputs reveal a new option that manages the notification activity for group chats. It will enable users to select whether they want to receive alerts for all group messages or only relevant (important) ones. The activity section shows two options:
- All: All group messages
- Relevant to me: @mentions, replies, and other messages you care about.
The company may also introduce an option regarding the muted groups. One can adjust this setting at any time based on their preferences. Note that these options may work as per the group size. For instance, if notifications are on mute, the default selection will prioritize the relevant option.
