Just like Instagram, WhatsApp will soon allow its users to like their contacts’ status updates. The company is testing a new “Like Reaction” feature that will enhance the users’ interactivity with their contacts in the status updates section.

Found in the Android beta 2.24.17.21 version, WhatsApp is rolling out a significant Like Reaction feature for status updates. The latest add-on is only available to limited beta testers. Though the company will soon bring it to more users via stable release.

WhatsApp has enhanced the updates section so far. Earlier, users were able to reply to their contacts’ status via sending texts. Thereafter, the company introduced a quick react feature where users expressed themselves without actually replying.

Now WhatsApp is adding a new reaction feature that will simply let you like the status. Doing so will notify the other person that you have liked their status. Although you can turn off these alerts from the Settings whenever required.

Users can further see who has liked their status will appear on the usual viewers sheet. The viewers sheet aims to show you both the viewers and those who liked the status in one place. Also, these likes are end-to-end encrypted and only the person posting the status can see the likes reactions on their status.

The company is currently rolling out this feature to beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program. However, WhatsApp will release it for general consumers in the coming weeks.
