WhatsApp is rolling out a new beta update for Android devices which brings an impressive background filter for status updates. This addition will showcase a gradient-like pattern in the status updates, making it more interactive for users.

Spotted in the Android beta 2.24.16.2 version, WhatsApp is renovating the status updates with a background gradient filter. The feature is available to some beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program but will soon make its way to others.

The company has been testing new enhancements for status updates for a long time. For instance, different interface outlooks and a few redesigned tools in this segment.

Now the chat app is getting a new makeover for the background of the status updates in a gradient format. A gradient filter will automatically appear in the background when uploading an image or a video on the WhatsApp status.

Note that this gradient will only be visible when the applied image or video doesn’t cover the status update section completely and leaves some space vacant in it.

The new background gradient look matches the classic shade and the overall design of the application. To check on the new feature, you can try uploading a 1:1 image on the status. If a two-shade background appears, then the feature is available for you.

It is worth noting that the new background changes will highlight the main media (image or video) on the status instead of keeping blank edges all around. The new WhatsApp feature is rolling out gradually to beta testers and will soon reach others via a stable release.
