WhatsApp preps useful in-app message translation feature for Android
WhatsApp is readying translation tools to make the chat application more helpful for users. After the audio message transcript capability, WhatsApp is now testing a new in-app text translation feature. It is currently available via the latest testing build.
As noted by WABetaInfo, the company is rolling out the Android beta 2.24.15.9 version. This fresh build gives some hints for the all-new WhatsApp in-app message translation feature. Let’s explore the current app testing version in detail.
Inputs reveal that WhatsApp preps an in-house translation tool for its audio and text messages. An early version said that this feature relies upon Google Live Translation. But the latest update has cleared the mist completely from this topic.
Probably, the company may add a feature called ‘Translate‘ in the chat section. It will likely reside in the three-dot menu at the upper right corner of the conversation.
Tapping on it will ask users to turn on a significant toggle to translate all new messages in the chat. This toggle will eventually allow them to read all text messages in their preferred language without installing any additional tool or application.
Although the feature is currently limited to certain languages like English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. Yet, we can expect more dialect additions to the application in the time ahead, with approaching versions.
WhatsApp’s in-app translation tool also ensures better security and enhanced privacy of users’ data. An in-built tool eliminates the chance of transferring users’ data or other confidential information to external servers.
The update is live for beta testers via the Google Play Beta Program and will gradually roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
