WhatsApp unread message count feature

WhatsApp is rolling out a new testing build for Android devices that brings a ‘clearing unread message count’ feature. Now users don’t have to open every conversation to get rid of unread texts. Just one tap can help them to free up the cluster in seconds.

Spotted in the Android beta version 2.24.11.13, WhatsApp is readying a useful feature that will clear the unread message count from the chat screen in no time.

Note that this feature will not only enhance the user experience but also give you better control over chat management. This new capability will mainly appear in the Notification sections (under WhatsApp > Settings) for easy access.

After installing the new update, you will find an option “Clear unread when app open” toggle in the Notifications section. This feature removes the unread message count every time the user opens the respective chat application.

Hence you will get a fresh start whenever launching the application. It is an effective addition to the app, focusing on the new and important chats rather than sticking to the old ones. If you don’t want it, you can disable it at any time from Settings.

WhatsApp is rolling out the new feature to some Android testers for the moment. Users can download the update from the Google Play Beta Program to explore the latest add-on while others can wait for a stable release!
