WhatsApp Android testers are receiving a new beta update that asks them to verify their birth year, following EU regulations. The feature is currently available to certain U.S. states but the company could expand it to more countries in the coming weeks.

As per the Android 2.24.12.25 beta version, WhatsApp is asking its users to enter their accurate birth year and verify it. The capability is part of the app’s interoperability that will let European users use third-party chat support in their WhatsApp.

Installing the latest beta build will lead you to a new section asking you to enter your birth year. Don’t worry as this detail won’t be revealed to your other contacts or made public at any time.

Note that once you enter your birth year, you cannot change it later. Hence ensure that you enter the correct digits before tapping the “Yes, I am” tab in the confirmation box.

WhatsApp requires such details to comply better with the EU regulations without affecting its users’ privacy or ruining the security aspects. Thus you can remain stress-free during this process. Just make sure that you are using the latest beta version of the application.

The new capability is rolling out to a limited number of Android testers via the Google Play Beta Program only in specific US states. Although the company may initiate a broader release in the time ahead.
