WhatsApp bringing a new mute feature for group chat notifications
WhatsApp is redesigning the “mute feature” for group chat notifications. It makes the respective tool more significant for users than ever before. Instead of simply muting a group chat, users can now select which types of alerts they want to keep silent.
Group chat is a perfect platform to converse with multiple people, friends, and family members. But constant messages often become disturbing at some points.
The company introduced a mute feature that lets you silent the group chats for a preferred duration. However, some of us might have missed useful information, following the activation of “Mute Notifications” in the group conversations.
To resolve this issue, WhatsApp is bringing a redesigned mute feature for group chat notifications. This feature will initially ask you about what kind of alerts you would like to be notified of. Users can ultimately pick any one of these options:
- All: Every group message
- Highlights: @mentions, replies, and other relevant messages
In case you pick the second choice, the app will notify you about mentions, replies to your chats, and other direct interactions. The feature further lets you prioritize the types of notifications in group chats that matter the most to you.
The new mute feature is perfect for engaging groups. In recent updates, the app often notifies users when mentioned in a silent group. This could be confusing for those who have muted the chats for the first time. Thanks to the latest addition, it also offers clarity on how the muting notification will work for users.
WhatsApp is currently testing the latest mute revamp via a beta update which is available to some users. The company could bring this feature to more users in the time ahead.
