Weekly Recap: Huawei P80 Camera, P70 Zoom, Mate 70 vs iPhone 16, Nvidia and more

This weekly recap focuses on the Huawei P80 series camera sensor for next year, the P70 series periscope camera, and its launch date. Notebook:

A tipster from Weibo says that Huawei is now working on a new MateBook X Pro model with Nearlink wireless technology. The feature was introduced a year ago and enables fast wireless connection with low power consumption.

Huawei P80:

Although Huawei has an entire year ahead with two major launches but rumors about the P80 also surfaced this week.  A Weibo leakster says that the company may equip the Huawei P80 series with an OV50X 1-inch camera sensor.

Huawei usually launches the P-series phones in the first half of a year. Similarly, the P80 could meet the launch during the same launch window in 2025.

Huawei P70:

Huawei P70 and P70 Pro models are likely to feature a 12MP periscope camera system and a 50MP variable aperture main sensor. The high-end model from the P70 series will sport a 50MP periscope camera, says a DigitalChatStation.

A launch rumor indicates that Huawei could schedule the P70 series unveiling in March with a new telephoto image, satellite communication, and new design.

The camera section may also bring a new font-facing lens with a larger rear camera bump than the Huawei P60 series.

Huawei Mate 70:

A new report suggests that the Huawei Mate 70 series will compete against the iPhone 16 in October. This scenario is identical to last year when the Huawei Mate 60 series and iPhone 15 lineup in October 2023.

Huawei could also increase the stock of the next Mate phone with an improved supply chain. Based on the observation, the stock could increase about 40-50% compared to Mate 60 but there’s no official confirmation about this.

A new rumor says that the company will further improve Kirin’s capability in the Mate 70 series. It may take a performance level to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but the process node is not shared.

New Launches:

Earlier this week, Huawei unveiled Enjoy 70z, a budget smartphone for Chinese customers. It packs a 6000mAh battery with a 22.5W fast charger, a 6.75-inch LCD screen, a 13MP dual rear camera, and more.

Another launch this week uncovered the Huawei Pocket 2 vertical foldable device featuring a larger cover screen. The hinge of the phone is improved compared to the predecessor and new color variants are also added. It equips a quad rear camera system featuring a 50MP XMAGE main sensor.

A new Max 80W wireless charger has been launched by Huawei, which provides a super-fast charging experience for supported devices. It is the first time that Huawei approached high charging capacity in wireless charging accessories.

AI:

The world’s largest AI chip seller Nvidia said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing that Huawei is one of the primary competitors in the AI chip industry.

Enterprise:

Huawei recently released a new eKitStor Xtreme 200 memory NVMe solid state drive. It comes in four storage options – 512GB, 1TB, 2 TB, and 4TB suitable for commercial platforms and enterprise customers.

Porsche Design:

A long-term partnership between Huawei and Porsche Design ended last year in June confirms Porsche Design in a statement to Android Authority.
