Britain and the EU recently decided to limit Huawei in 5G rollout, which will cost telecom companies a big sum in order to replace Huawei’s equipment from its core network under the new 5G regulations.

Major telecoms operators – BT and Vodafone said it’ll cost GBP 500 million ($657 million) and 200 million euros ($220 million) respectively to replace existing network gear from the core.

“We have now decided, as a result of the EU toolbox and the UK government’s decision, to take out Huawei from the core,” Nick Read, Chief Executive of Vodafone told Reuters.

In the UK, Vodafone has to make minor adjustments to comply with the rules in Britain but the same case does not apply to Spain and in some smaller European markets.

BT’s Chief Executive Philip Jansen also gave similar thoughts regarding the replacement of Huawei form the Core network and the total loss.
