US extends Huawei license until August, China to prepare its own Entity-list including U.S. companies

On Friday, May 15, the U.S. Department of Commerce has announced the extension of Huawei’s temporary business license for a new 90-days period.

In May 2019, the US commerce department added Huawei into the U.S. Entity List, to bar its supplies and business with the American companies or the companies that use US-made technologies.

The existing license was set to expire on Friday and now extended until August 2020. Any future general licenses will be announced prior to the expiration of this 90-day time period.

Also, U.S. President Donald Trump has moved a new order to restrict chip supplies from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to Huawei, reports Reuters.

The new rules in the order expands the U.S. authority to overseas markets and require a license for those who want to sell their goods to the Chinese tech giant. Especially those, which uses U.S. driven technologies to produce products.

On the other hand, China is preparing its won “Unreliable entity list” including U.S. companies such as Apple, Cisco, and Qualcomm as well as suspending purchases from Boeing, reports China’s Global Times.

Huawei, which needs chips for smartphones and telecom equipment, has been stuck in the middle of US-China disputes, which is escalating day by day.
