UK needed Huawei in 5G to diversify the market, Johnson told Trump

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told U.S. President Donald Trump that countries should work together to break the dominance of a small number of firms following the permission to Huawei to participate in UK’s 5G rollout, reports Reuters.

“The Prime Minister underlined the importance of like-minded countries working together to diversify the market and break the dominance of a small number of companies,” a spokesperson at Johnson’s Downing Street office said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, where it was agreed that the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) should issue guidance to UK Telecoms operators on the next-gen network security.

Huawei said it is reassured by the UK government’s confirmation that the company can continue working with customers to keep the 5G roll-out on track.

According to the information, Huawei can participate only in non-core parts of the 5G network infrastructure and its operating market is suggested to capped at 35% but opened for under review option.
