U.S. needs 4.9 Billion Dollars to remove Huawei: Network regulator

In the latest development, U.S. top communication chief said the country’s network carriers need $3 billion more to remove Huawei and other Chinese telecom equipment, which now led the overall cost of this so-called “Reimbursement Program” to 4.9 billion dollars.

As reported by Reuters, Jessica Rosenworcel, the official chairwoman of the U.S. Federal Communication commission wrote a letter to Senator Maria Cantwell regarding the requirement of 4.9 billion dollars to remove Huawei and ZTE. However, the new fund is in a shortfall of 3.08 billion.

Huawei and U.S. have been in the news for a quite while and there are various blames and claims have been made by the American government against the Chinese tech giant in the past years.

The U.S. Blames Huawei to be in connection with the Chinese government and military and compromises its customer data with them. However, Huawei has denied these allegations and said there’s no evidence and U.S. allegations are based on hoaxes and politically motivated to curb its progress.

Still no conclusion:

After the events of Entity List in 2019, the U.S. Federal Communication Commission \(FCC) passed a bill in congress to remove Huawei and other Chinese telecom equipment makers from U.S. network infrastructure.

The bill mentioned that there will only be 40 percent of the reimbursement cost given to the corresponding participants. However, the companies that won’t comply with this program won’t receive the subsidies and must have to remove the equipment either way or with their own fund.

However, Congress has been only moving with 1.9 billion USD of the fund to do this task, while previous reports revealed that the U.S. companies want more in the process to remove these Chinese firms.

Adding to this, U.S. carriers have made their own request with over 181 applicants have agreed and requesting the FCC to approve 5.6 billion USD for the reimbursement program.

Even after three years of debate and discussion, the U.S. government cannot deny the presence and the wide availability that Huawei has made among network carriers that loved Huawei’s services and technology.
