Standard Huawei Mate 60 begins testing

In back-to-back launch schedules, Huawei is now preparing to launch a new Mate series flagship in the latter part of this year. Adding to this, the standard Huawei Mate 60 test model has now appeared to warm up for the unveiling.

According to the input coming from Wangzaiknows, Huawei has started testing Huawei Mate 60 standard model, and the current test is conducted with Snapdragon 8+ chipset. However, there are no further details revealed by the tipster.

Huawei has been using Snapdragon 8+ since the launch of the Huawei Mate 50 series. Thereafter, the company equipped this chipset in the Huawei P60 lineup in March 2023.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset uses TSMC’s 4nm technology node. The CPU consists of the octa-core architecture including a single super-core X2, three large-core A710 cores, and four small-core A510. The frequency is 3.2GHz, 2.8GHz, and 2.0 GHz respectively.

As compared to Snapdragon 8, the successor provides 30% power consumption efficiency. This chip reduces 30% GPU power consumption and the overall device’s power efficiency is optimized by 15%.

Test Model:

Looking at past trends, Huawei changes the core smartphone components ahead of the final release. For example, Huawei Nova 11 series was tested with a high-frequency Snapdragon 8+ chipset. Eventually, the phone was launched with Snapdragon 778G.

So, these are quite a repack that Huawei puts into action at the last moment before the launch event. Therefore, we can’t expect the current processor to become certain for the time being. Because we also have past reports of the phone testing with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

By exploring more possibilities, the company may use the Gen 2 in the Pro or Pro+ version. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 could be utilized for the standard version. Yet, none of these can be confirmed officially.

Launch date:

For now, Huawei has not announced an official launch date but the phone should target an introduction event in October 2023.
