Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and more signed 64-bit app adaptation proposal

Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Meizu, and Samsung jointly launched a new proposal for a 64-bit app adaptation for mobile devices.

This new announcement came at the working mechanism launch organized by the Telecommunication Terminal Industry Association, and China Academy of Information and Communication Technology.

According to the information, the top 100 most popular apps on Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Lenovo app stores in China adapted to 64% of app architecture. 98% of the top 1000 apps are adapted to 64-bit and over 98% of the top 3000 apps are adapted to 64-bit.

In July 2022, Huawei announced that it would stop supporting new 64-bit apps on AppGallery.

The Chinese tech maker also confirmed to app developers that 64-bit adaptation on AppGallery and made it mandatory from February 1, 2023.

In July this year, app stores including Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi began to remove 32-bit apps from their application stores for mobile devices.

Huawei AppGallery also announced the removal of 32-bit apps from August this year. After that, the company is only accepting 64-bit versions of published applications.

64-bit apps can run faster than 32-bit apps. These apps can access RAM above the 4GB range and use advanced security features.

This app architecture provides greater access to mobile resources for performance-intensive scenarios such as gaming and productivity apps.
