Samsung tri-fold Huawei design

Samsung is trying to copy the Huawei Mate XT design for its first tri-fold. The company has recently issued a patent for a triple-folding phone. But its overall look and form factor resembles the world’s first tri-foldable. Let’s explore this patent.

Huawei and Samsung were wrestling for the world’s first triple-foldable crown. And we already know who the winner is. The Chinese phone maker took over the lead in the tri-fold race by launching the Mate XT Ultimate Design on September 10.

Although Samsung is still putting efforts to launch its first tri-fold by 2025. The company aims not to be the “first” but the “best” tri-foldable producer in the world.

The South Korean firm filed a tri-fold patent at the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in July 2021. It has now been published, showing the outlines of a triple foldable phone. The patent reads improved durability and flexibility.

Interestingly, the overall design and form factor of Samsung tri-fold seems quite similar to the Huawei Mate XT. It showcases the same Z-like folding mechanism.

It further highlights an additional layer around the opening sides of the device for easier folding and less tension on the screen. Other parts like the supporting panels and layers will likely use stainless steel or glass material to maintain reliability.

The patent notes that Samsung will use synthetic resin and a transparent window for the tri-fold display. As a result, it will offer anti-reflection benefits. It may also integrate an extra layer to safeguard the screen from risky components.

Huawei Mate XT created a buzz in the consumer market for its tri-folding mechanism. The device uses the first dual-hinge technology to offer the best flexibility and a reliable experience. Now Samsung is seemingly trying to follow suit.

After Huawei, Samsung wants to grab the tri-fold sash. To speed up, the South Korean company seems like copying the champion triple foldable phone.

This is still a patent application and doesn’t guarantee a likewise model in the future. But it would be worth seeing what Samsung will bring to fight against Huawei Mate XT.
