Poco F1 HarmonyOS

Recently, a Chinese developer installed open-source HarmonyOS (OpenHarmony) on the Xiaomi Poco F1 smartphone and found that the phone is running this software smoothly like the pre-installed Android powered MIUI.

Over the past months, developers are testing several old phones with the latest OpenHarmony builds. To showcase the backward and low specs compatibility of OpenHarmony. Some of these are more prominent devices from Chinese smartphone companies than Huawei.

The developer also shared a video, which shows the following aspects of the phone. All of the system apps are working well, and no crashes detected. Operations such as web browsing, keyboard interactions, as well as internet connection establishment via WiFi, are working normally. Interestingly, users can also play simple games and load native OpenHarmony apps onboard via the OpenHarmony store.

Rendering and what’s smooth:

One thing to notice is that open-source HarmonyOS is running butter smooth on this hardware, which is really surprising. The app opening sequence and sending it in the background is supported by the system with fluency. There’s no lag noted in interactions or in responses.

OpenHarmony 3.2:

According to the information, the phone is loaded with OpenHarmony 3.2 version, which is recently released by the OpenAtom foundation. The version has been in testing for a long time and it’s now in release mode for all of the open-source community.

The new opens source HarmonyOS 3.2 comes with new enhancements in the capabilities of ArkUI. The user interface has been optimized for one-time development for all of the screen resolutions. It also has improvements for the app framework, app package management, system applications, distributed technology, data management, and more.

Poco F1 Specs:

Launched in 2018, Poco F1 is the first flagship smartphone from the POCO brand Xiaomi. The phone equips Snapdragon 845 chipset and has 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. It sports a 6.18-inch FHD+ screen with an IPS panel and notch head.

It runs Android 8.1 based on MIUI 9.6 and is upgradable to MIUI 12 (Android 10). Despite of not receiving further software updates, the latest open-source HarmonyOS installation shows that Poco F1 still has praiseworthy hardware capability.
