Optica Foundation parts ways with Huawei, says to return all funds: Report

Huawei and Optica Foundation funds matter have now proceeded with a break up between the two firms. The latter has decided to cut ties with the Chinese tech maker and return all money taken for conducting competitions and other tasks.

An early report revealed that Huawei had funded the Optica Foundation since 2022 to conduct research and academic contests. Hereafter, the U.S. authorities criticized the foundation for secretly accepting money and risking the national security.

Even though Huawei and Optica said that the funding intentions were good, the U.S. lawmakers issued a letter saying that keeping such things anonymous is an insult to laws and regulations. The letter also had some questions related to Huawei bonds.

The Biden administration believed that the Chinese OEM opted for such tricks to use its technology as a spy tool and collect cutting-edge research on the foreign nation.

It could be a reason why the company remained anonymous during the entire funding practice. Even though Optica stated that it’s an ordinary process for donors to keep themselves unknown in this activity, the U.S. didn’t agree with it.

Funds return:

Now the Optica Foundation has said to part ways with Huawei and return its all funds for 2024 and the previous two years. The Optica Foundation CEO – Elizabeth Rogan wrote a letter to the Optica Board of Directors and mentioned the following words:

“Huawei’s funding has diverted attention from the programme’s mission to support early career professionals focused on our field of optics and photonics. Huawei will have no connection to the programme moving forward.”

Elizabeth further talked about the ongoing research competition and said that the results will be out later this year. It would be worth seeing how the entire matter proceeds in the time ahead.
