Oppo win against Nokia and exits from France

Patent disputes are quite common but a recent win of Oppo over Nokia is somewhat strange as the Chinese phone company decided to quit distribution operations in France, where the court ruled in its favor.

Recently, Nokia filed a patent dispute lawsuit against Oppo in Paris Court of Justice. However, the French judge declared that the EP486 and EP731 patents of Nokia are considered invalid for the reason of lack of novelty. Thus, OPPO won the trial at the first instance after a two-year court case over Nokia’s EP486 and EP731 patents.

This decision follows a same lawsuit decision in Germany, where Nokia won over Oppo. Fosspatents report mentioned a French court has rejected one of the patents and even ordered Nokia to reimburse 400,000 euros in legal fees. Nokia could be in trouble if it does not find a solution for the oppo thing quickly, as the issue of the decision in France could be brought back to the German courts (via Nokiamob).

Frandroid comes with an input that Oppo decided to cease distribution in France. Oppo’s official distribution partner in the country – Yang Technology confirmed this new decision.

It means customers in France could still buy new Oppo phones but through third-party retailers. Meanwhile, an official statement is yet to come.
