Oppo takes lead over Huawei in China’s foldable phone market

In major turns of events, Oppo has taken the lead over Huawei as the top foldable phone maker in China for the first quarter of this year. This is a big change in the foldable segment, as Huawei was the only ruler for a long straight year.

According to IDC, Oppo comes first with 35 percent of the overall market share. It’s noted that this new growth is derived from the phone, Find N2, which is a flip-style device.

It is being said that the company has broken the barrier of flip-style devices by providing a large cover screen. It seems quite true, as Huawei also has a similar improvement planned for later this year.

Speaking of Huawei, the Chinese tech maker has slipped to the second spot with a 24.9% market share for the Q1 of 2023. Huawei’s sales growth is still derived from its latest and previous models including Mate Xs 2.

It’s also revealed that Samsung is still in third place with its 18.4% shares. Honor Xiaomi and Vivo follow for the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions. This has 10.5%, 5.6%, and 4.5% market shares respectively.

Chinese foldable phone market:

In the first quarter of 2023, China’s shipments of folding screen products remained stable. In total, it accounted for shipments of 1.02 million units with a year-on-year increase of 52.8%.

Among them, the share of flip-style folded products continued to rise to 44.3%. In addition, more companies are planning to launch devices in this segment. It is expected that the Chinese folding-screen mobile phone market will continue to grow rapidly in 2023.
