New Honor Phone looks like Huawei tri-fold
Huawei tri-fold phone and Honor Magic V3 are in the buzz for their similar-looking design. Several netizens said that one of these foldables has copied the other handset in appearance. Is this true? How so? Let’s find out the details of this matter.
After the global launch of Magic V3, many people said that the new Honor phone looks like a Huawei tri-fold device. Both folding phone has a reddish brown plain leather back. They also sport an octagonal camera bump with a thick structure.
These similarities eventually led to comments like “Huawei copied Honor” and “Honor got Huawei’s drawings first” on the internet. A few reporters even confronted Honor CEO Zhao Ming regarding the similarities between both new folding phones.
Zhao responded that such claims are nothing but nonsense. He said the company completed the Magic V3 design preparations a year ago. Being a trendy form factor, many designers think to adopt it. Adding drama to such points is not good.
For ‘Honor to take drawings from Huawei’, the CEO said that he hadn’t gone to Songshan Lake for a long time. Hence, there is no chance of such happening. Still, if someone believes so, they can get him a lawyer’s letter on this matter.
“All our designs were completed a year ago. The design is similar to ours. Maybe because it’s a good design language and direction. The designers might feel the same way. But adding any drama to it is nonsense. Any claim that Huawei took the blueprints from Honor or plagiarized Honor’s design drawings is nonsense.”
If we look keenly at both devices, there is a similarity on the rear sides. They have an identical slim framework and a plain leather texture. Another highlight is the octagonal camera bump.
However, Huawei’s tri-fold is built on the form factor of Mate X5 and shows a Mate 60 RS-like camera module. The additional screen is the main hype of the new foldable. Regarding other differences, things will get crystal clear on September 10.
