Honor all-side foldable patent

Honor has issued a new foldable patent that reveals an all-side folding phone mechanism. The patent application number is CN118658377A. It seems the tech giant will soon raise the standard of the innovative foldable with a unique creation.

As per the patent application, Honor is planning to make a foldable that can support an all-side folding mechanism. In other words, the device can easily be folded or unfolded from multiple sides and at the same time, will maintain durability.

The patent summary shows a folding device, 2-3 rotating shafts, and an intermediate connecting element. These shafts will be attached to the back of the foldable screen (opposite to each other in pairs) allowing it to fold or unfold in multiple directions.

Here, the intermediate connecting part will remain at the near ends of each rotating shaft (close to each other). The element can easily bend, fold, or unfold the device around two shafts in the same straight line. Overall, it allows the device to fold from various sides. Interestingly, the patent summary reads:

“The usage of the foldable electronic device is more flexible and richer, which can enhance the competitiveness of the foldable electronic device.”

Since it’s only a patent, the accuracy of this figure becoming a reality is not yet clear. Honor might launch such a product in the future, probably after unveiling its tri-fold handset. Till then, we may get more details about this unique foldable phone.

Huawei introduced the world’s first triple foldable phone Mate XT last month. After the champion device, several tech vendors like Xiaomi and Samsung were in the news to soon launch their tri-folding phone. And Honor is no exception to this theory.

Inputs reveal that Honor could release a 10mm thin tri-fold phone compared to the Mate XT (12.8mm). It may launch next year around the first quarter. Other details are unknown but the company may soon reveal more info about its new creations.
