Mercedes-Benz S-Class denied rumors of using HarmonyOS car system
Recently, a rumor about Mercedes-Benz appeared online suggesting that the carmaker will use the HarmonyOS car system in its S-Class series, however, it turned out to be false.
Some Chinese media sources started to hype that Mercedes-Benz announced a cooperation agreement with Huawei and would use Huawei’s HarmonyOS car system. This news started a wide discussion among the Chinese car community.
Related to this, the Mercedes-Benz sales department told the media that the news of HarmonyOS cockpit use in its car was false. An industry insider indicates that the news is misunderstood by people.
Previously, Huawei Device CEO and Smart Automotive Business Chairman, Yu Chengdong announced on Weibo that Huawei HMS services will be used in Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans in China. Therefore, all of the HMS-integrated Mercedes cars could use HMS applications on board via the HiCar application.
One thing to note is that the HarmonyOS in-car infotainment system is separate from HMS for car and HiCar services. You can understand such integration in cars similar to Android Auto or Apple’s CarPlay. That’s it, there’s nothing more than that, just support for smartphones to connect and extend their services to the supported car.
