MediaTek and Qualcomm leads global chipset market, Huawei HiSilicon drops in score

Chipmaker MediaTek emerges as the leader in the smartphone highest shipments SoC chipset market in Q1 2022 with a market share of 38% as per the report by the market research firm Counterpoint. Meanwhile being a Huawei fan the report is not in the favor of Hisilicon, as it dropped its share.

The first quarter of 2022 is being implied in the favor of Qualcomm and MediaTek, both of them stayed at the top from the previous year and are listed as Qualcomm after MediaTek.  Thanks to its Deminesity 700 and 900 series, it increase the 5G chip shipments in Q1 by 20% year on year.

Whereas the Snapdragon 700 and 800 series of Qualcomm maintained its high-end market position with revenue of 30% of overall market share in the Q1. In short, Qualcomm gained the second position in the chipset market.

On the other hand, in terms of revenue for the first quarter of 2022, Qualcomm ruled the AP market with high-end sales, while the leader of the chip shipper MediaTek had only a 19% market share in total revenue, driving the company’s growth with Dimensity 9000.

Notably, Samsung’s latest flagship model the Galaxy S22 series adds a great contribution as it shipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which backbone it to lead Qualcomm in the AP market.

Whereas the most prominent Apple took second place with 26% of the market share with the continued steady demand for the high-end iPhone 13 series. In addition to this Apple still utilizes Qualcomm’s baseband for the 5G network in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series.

In Q1 2022 the most noticeable impact is implied on the HiSilicon as the banned in the US. Huawei Can not produce the HiSilicon Kirin chips. Meanwhile, the overall revenue has also dropped from 8% in the first Quater of 2021 to 1% in Q1 2022.
