Mate 30’s Kirin 985 is under trial production with 4G baseband, also planned a 5G version

HiSilicon, Huawei’s semiconductor division is developing its next-gen mobile application processor reportedly called Kirin 985, which has now reached to testing phase in the production process to make its way in a large scale production mode.

According to DigiTimes, Huawei Mate 30 series will be equipped with Kirin 985 processor based on TSMC’s 7nm EUV process, which has had undergone in its trial production in the second quarter and will be in mass production in the third quarter.



The Kirin 985 series chip supports Huawei’s high-end 4G smartphones including the upcoming Mate 30 series but the company is also planning to produce a 5G modem integrated chip version of SoC for the same phone.

It’s also reported that Huawei has accelerated its pace of launching a 5G baseband processor or 5G modem integrated SoC and planning to make it commercially available by the start of next year.

Apart from this, Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to be launched around September or October equipped with Kirin 985 chip so the company may come up early with a new 5G baseband enabled Kirin processor for the Mate 30 or it’s unlikely to happen that the company decided to go with first gen Balong 5000 5G modem chip separately inside the phone similar to Mate X and Mate 20X 5G.
