March 2021 security update rolling out for Huawei P40 lineup smartphones

Huawei mainly launches or rollout new updates initially on the mainland and then globally. But this time, the company delivered the new security improvements for P40 devices overseas market ahead of home ground.

Just recently, Huawei has released a software update for P40 and P40 Pro smartphones in the global market including Europe and Australia. This update mainly brings the security patch published in March 2021, which increases system security.

March 2021 Security Patch Details: This security patch fixes 2 critical, 13 high levels, and 132 medium levels of CVEs for improved system security.

Now, Huawei is expanding this security improvement to models of the P40 segment in the Chinese market. The security notes along with fixing exploits and issues also resolve hidden privacy issues for improved system security.

HarmonyOS status:

Currently, HarmonyOS developer beta activity is going on and it was reported that at the end of April, Huawei will wind up the beta program and open public HarmonyOS beta for general consumers.

Coming back to Huawei P40 devices, according to previous information, Huawei will first recruit devices from the P40, Mate 40 series, and Mate X2 in the first wave of internal HarmonyOS beta.

Key points to users before Update:

• The device must have a better battery backup to install this update that is a minimum of 50%.
• It’s Compulsory to check your storage availability(Internal/External SDcard) to download the latest update as per its size required
• A strong WiFi/mobile data connection is required for a buffer-free download of the package.

New EMUI version:

Huawei P40 series smartphones receiving EMUI 11 version 11.0.0.176 upgraded from 11.0.0.172/173. However, this version is available for Chinese variants.

HOW TO UPDATE:

Download via Settings:

• Open Settings
• Click on the System & Updates
• Open Software update
• Tap on Check for updates option
• If an update is available, click on Download and install
• After installation Reboot the device

Download via Support app:

• Open the Support app on your device
• Go to the Service tab
• Click on the update button
• Tap on Check for update option
• If an update is available, click on Download and install
