Lawyers requests detail records to prove Huawei CFO’s rights were violated

Lawers of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou detailed a list of emails, notes and other records they are seeking to prove that her rights were violated before her December detention at Vancouver’s airport.

On December 1, Meng was arrested over allegation of bank fraud and accused of misleading the bank HSBC about Huawei’s business in Iran. She said this whole scenario is politically motivated.

According to Reuters, Meng’s lawyers are seeking further documentation from Canada’s Department of Justice (DoJ) the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The lawyers claim that they meet the legal standard that there’s “an air of reality that there are other documents… that have not been disclosed,” according to the document.

Meng’s lawyer said if they ultimately help prove the Canadian official abused their authority, the extradition proceedings should be stopped.

Meanwhile, the main extradition proceeding itself is scheduled to begin in January. Meng’s team proposed that the extradition hearing wrap up in October 2020, with extra time set aside in November 2020 in case it is needed.
