Kirin 985 launched with Dual NPU, Mali G77 GPU, NSA/SA 5G and more
Huawei has launched a new mid-range chipset – Kirin 985, equipped first handed on the standard Honor 30 to boast NSA/SA 5G dual-mode connectivity and new AI power.
The Kirin 985 is built with TSMS 7nm process technology and adopts the same dual-core Da Vinci NPU architecture as Kirin 990 chipset that improved 173% compared to previous Kirin processors.
Arhicturecture:
The Kirin 985 architecture consists of 1 x Cortex-A76 (2.58GHz) + 3 x Cortex-A76 (2.40GHz) + 4 x Cortex-A55 (1.84GHz) combination on the CPU level for top performance.
For the first time, Kirin chipset includes 8 core of Mali-G77 GPU. It also features dual-NPU (1 x Large and 1 x micro Huawei Ascend cores), Kirin ISP 5.0 (15% improved), a modem that supports 2/3/4/5G networks, Kirin Gaming+ 2.0 for better games optimizations.
Performance and Energy Efficiency:
Kirin 985 delivers a 5G downlink rate is 40% fast and uplink 75% compared to the Snapdragon 865 chip + X55 modem. In traffic dense locations, the download speed is 13% higher, in the high-speed scenario, the speed reaches the top at up 31% more.
From the energy efficiency view, Kirin 985 saves 1.5 times more power compared to the combination of Snapdragon 865 + X55. The overall improvement of Kirin 985 is 15% higher compared to previous generations.
Network:
The Kirin 985 is designed to support 5G NSA/SA dual architecture and dual-SIM 5G along with features such as 5G anti-jamming, 5G low latency, and smart network manager.
