Huawei has introduced the Kirin 9020 chipset with the Mate 70 series and it seems the new SoC is stronger than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. After the Mate 70 launch, several tipsters began checking the new chip and its performing capabilities.

A few tipsters noted that the Huawei Kirin 9020 chipset is stronger than the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Its performance also draws level with Dimensity 9200.

For reference, Snapdragon 8+Gen 1 debuted in 2022 and has a higher CPU core frequency than 8 Gen 1. Its GPU offers 10% increased performance as well as 30% improved power efficiency. The chip also offers a 20% better performance AI engine.

Dimensity 9200, on the other hand, launched in 2022 and delivers 32% improved GPU performance over previous versions. It equips NPU 690 AI SoC which is 35% faster than the predecessor. The overall performance is quite efficient.

Interestingly, both these foreign chipsets rely on the 4nm process. Although Huawei Kirin 9020 effectively competes with them and achieved significant grades.

Kirin 9020 is the successor of the Kirin 9010. It is packed in the Mate 70 Pro/Pro+/RS Ultimate Design and the Mate X6 foldable. It is said to provide 40% stronger performance than the previous generation chip and promises better efficiency.

Another tipster has revealed the AnTuTu score of the Mate 70 Pro with the Kirin 9020 chipset. Inputs show that the GPU performance is relatively greater than the Kirin 9010. The tipster adds that the China-made chip is still strong at this level.

Despite U.S. sanctions, Huawei achieved a new milestone this year in the form of a Kirin 9020 processor. The company has not listed the chip on its official website. But a few tipsters managed to get the details via the mobile information page.

Kirin 9020 chip development shows that Huawei is taking small yet notable steps in the semiconductor field. The company is constantly putting efforts to progress in this sector. It would be worth seeing how the US reacts to the new chip development.
