A new report by TechInsights says that Huawei continues to make good scores in global smartphone shipments for Q2 2024. The company has hit new sales and revenue records in the second quarter of this year, thanks to Mate and Pura models.

TechInsights reveals that Huawei is doing well in both Chinese and global markets. After recovering 5G capabilities and supply chain problems, the OEM shipped over 11.6 million smartphone units worldwide in the second quarter of 2024.

Further details state that Huawei global smartphone shipments grew by 49% YoY in Q2 2024. A credit for this achievement goes to Pura 70 models which globally debuted in May. These phones elevated the firm’s position in the global market.

With the new Pura brand, the Chinese tech maker targeted the high-end smartphone market ruled by Apple and Samsung. The company took the first step successfully. It won’t take much time to firm its legs once again in the global franchise.

TechInsights has also shared Huawei’s smartphone shipment growth in China. Being the main market, it accounts for 89% of the company’s global smartphone shipment. Most of these handsets belong to the Mate 60 and the Pura 70 series.

A large shipment proportion of high-end models like Mate and Pura has increased the overall average selling price and wholesale revenue of the company. Some other reasons that helped Huawei to rise in the global and Chinese markets are:

  • Kirin 5G chips’ return
  • Faster growth of the foldable market
  • Reducing dependence on foreign chip suppliers
  • Falldown of foreign tech vendors like Apple

With the Kirin 9000s 5G chip, the company regained momentum in the smartphone market. Huawei also raised its chipset bar by introducing a new Kirin 9010 chip (7nm) with Pura 70 Ultra. Now users have locked their eyes on the Mate 70 chip.

Foldable market is another reason behind Huawei’s success in China. The company has introduced two new clamshell products – Pocket 2 and Nova Flip. On the other hand, the Mate X line is still in great demand among consumers. Together, the vertical and horizontal foldable phones grew by 50% and 400% in Q2 2024 in China.

Devices like the Enjoy 70 series and Nova Y72 have left the Qualcomm chip in favor of Kirin processors. Huawei is also focusing on reducing its dependency on foreign components for its products. It is teaming with native partners for better growth.

Voids made by Apple due to a fall in sales are also helping the OEM to expand its market value. However, TechInsights notes that Huawei still has much room for improvement. The company has to work on price, quality control, and system optimization, to reach the top position in both Chinese and global markets.
