Huawei will use available chip tech to meet long-term AI goals

Huawei will continue to use its available chip technology to build new AI products and meet long-term computing goals. That says Xu Zhijun – the Rotating Chairman of the company during the Huawei Connect 2024 conference in Shanghai.

Xu delivered a keynote entitled ‘Embracing the Era of Comprehensive Intelligence. The speech reflects the company’s upcoming strategy towards AI goals.

The executive says that AI has become a major subject in technology that has a ‘far-reaching’ impact on the industry. In commercial applications, no technology has seen such a speedy development as AI in a short time.

Although China is facing some challenges in this aspect. AI indirectly relies on a powerful chip architecture. However, Chinese firms are behind in this case due to the U.S. ban. The good news is that Huawei has a response to this challenge.

According to Xu, the computing power structures in China, based on the current chipmaking technologies are sustainable in the long run. Others that depend on new but low-efficient processes become unreliable over time.

In such a condition, Huawei can benefit from innovation and structural changes in computing power. The OEM will focus on boosting computing power at the system level rather than a single processor level.

Thus, Huawei aims to create a computing power architecture based on the available chip-making tech to meet long-term AI goals. Inputs reveal that the company will combine three major components:

• Available chipmaking technology
• Innovation in computing
• Storage and Network Solutions

The respective merger will eventually help the company to create a “supernodes + cluster” system. This solution will aid to sustainably meet the long-term demand for AI products and computing power in the region. It will also help the firm to fight against U.S. sanctions.
