Huawei will collide with Tesla in self-driving tech race

Tesla is planning to make its way to China’s self-driving tech next year and Huawei could be a major roadblocker for it. In 2025, consumers may see a showdown between both companies for the crown of the best driving solutions provider.

FSD (Full Self-Driving) is Tesla’s advanced driver assistance features suite. It can maintain speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, slow down or stop at traffic lights, react to pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, and more.

As per some inputs, Tesla FSD was about to land in China by the end of this year. But regulatory approval is pending for the technology. Thus, the company has delayed its arrival till early 2025. Things aren’t much confirmed on this topic.

However, one confirmation is Tesla will see Huawei as one of its toughest rivals in the self-driving tech race. Yu Chengdong mentioned that Huawei’s Intelligent Driving unit is better than its foreign competitor (Tesla) in terms of driving solutions.

On October 17, Huawei Automotive Solutions Business Group Chairman – Yu Chengdong attended the 2024 World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference.

During the event, the executive said that Huawei is ready to collide with its new rivals in China. Yu Chengdong hinted at Tesla FSD which may come to the Chinese automobile market in the first quarter of the next year.

The Chairman said that a Huawei-backed smart car without LiDAR tech will also offer better performance than that of Tesla. Meanwhile, one can expect more with a LiDAR-based EV. The Qiankun smart car solutions suite is another weapon of the Chinese tech giant to battle with foreign competitors.

Fair enough, Yu Chengdong said that FSD does perform well. But under many self-driving tests in countries like U.S., Canada, and more, Huawei won this game.

Huawei is already at the top of the Chinese automobile market. No, it does not make cars but provides super-advanced smart car solutions that help its automobile partners rank first in all price categories (mid-range or luxury) in China.

The tech giant has also introduced new Qiankun ADS 3.0 tech that makes self-driving experience super efficient. It not only takes care of objects or passers-by but can also adopt self-parking even when the driver is not in the car.

At the same time, Huawei is expanding its smart car solutions business in its home ground by collaborating with more automakers. The latest one in the list counts BYD and even Audi.

If nothing else, Tesla will certainly face difficulties winning customers in the Huawei-dominated self-driving vehicle market in China.
