Huawei wants to publish Google apps on AppGallery

On March 31, Huawei published its 2019 annual results showing revenue rounded off at CNY858.8 billion, up 19.1% year-on-year. After this announcement, a top official made an interesting statement about Google Apps.

Speaking to CNBC, Eric Xu, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman hopes to see Google apps published on Huawei’s app distribution platform – AppGallery. To reduce the requirement of Google Mobile Services (GMS).

“We hope Google services can be available through our AppGallery, just like how Google services are available through Apple’s App Store,” Said Eric.

Last year, the US government prohibited Google from doing business with Huawei. Following this decision, Huawei decided to use its HMS, HMS Core and AppGallery as a replacement in new flagships- Huawei Mate 30 and P40 series.

Google has also made Google apps available on Apple’s AppStore even though its devices running on IOS (Not on Android), which is why it’s completely possible that any developer can publish their apps on the AppGallery.

Recently, Huawei’s Consumer Business Group CEO – Richard Yu also expressed similar intentions of using GMS alongside HMS to provide the best user experience Huawei/Honor users.

If Google uploads its apps on AppGallery, it’ll be a huge convenience for Huawei to sell its smartphones in the market outside of China.
