Huawei VP confirms Wi-Fi 6 use in smartphones in future, possible in P40 series or Mate 40 series?

A few days ago, Bruce Lee, Vice President of Huawei Consumer Business Group Handset Division on Weibo said the current Wi-Fi 6 solutions in the market are weak and the company will use it in its smartphones in the future.

Bruce said the current performance of Wi-Fi 6 phones cannot reach 150Mbps, which cannot even beat the 2018’s Huawei Mate 20. He also mentioned that using the Wi-Fi 6 module is not cost-efficient.

However, the most notable thing is the “device” that actually used to create that post, named “Huawei Phone” and not a specific model.

Some of the Weibo users in the comments speculated that Bruce is currently using Huawei P40 Pro but there’s no confirmation on this speculation.

According to the Bluetooth certification, both Huawei P40 and P40 Pro use Bluetooth 5.1 and these devices expected to use a new Wi-Fi/Bluetooth all in one chip that will support the new Wi-Fi standard – 802.11 but there’s no confirmation on this either.

Wi-Fi 6 is the next-generation standard in WiFi technology. Wi-Fi 6 also known as “AX WiFi” or “802.11ax WiFi” builds and improves on the current 802.11ac WiFi standard. Wi-Fi 6 was originally built in response to the growing number of devices in the world.

Wi-Fi 6 offers up to 9.6Gbps higher data rate compared to 6.9Gbps in Wi-Fi 5. It also uses 4X higher network bandwidth to handle more device connections, as well as improved power efficiency compared to its predecessor.

For your information, Huawei is using Wi-Fi 6 in its AirEngine wireless solutions and is the top Wi-Fi 6 solution provider in the industry but the technology is in its early stages of commercialization.

Huawei flagship including Mate 30 series and P30 series certified with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and other smartphones manufacturer also uses this Wi-Fi class.

Currently, it’s hard to say when Huawei is planning to use Wi-Fi 6 in its smartphones and if the company didn’t use it on the P40 series then would it be the Mate 40 series? that’s a question that we’ll soon find out.
