Huawei user report missing always on display feature

Recently, Huawei introduced HarmonyOS 3.1 in China and a user has reported an issue with the always-on-display feature, as it’s missing some previously available functionality. Yes, it could be a change or an issue but we can’t confirm it either.

What happened?

A Chinese actor, Zhang Zhilin, who’s also a fan of the Huawei foldable phone gave feedback on the latest foldable phone – Huawei Mate X3. He wrote previous experience with Huawei Mate X2 and it’s features that surprised him at the core.

However, he is also a long-standing user of the always-on display feature, which now contains a change in display mode. According to the user, Huawei has removed the “all day” option from Always on Display settings.

Zhang also explained that the feature helped him to check screen time from a distance at a glance on Mate X2. Somehow, the feature is not available on Huawei Mate X3.

Huawei Response:

On this matter, Huawei Consumer Business Group CTO, Bruce Lee gave a fast response to resolve the current consumer doubts. He mentioned the company is discussing this matter internally. The option is no longer accessible because of the power consumption in always-on mode.

Therefore, the only option that is showing the end user is to tap to show. In his personal opinion, the feature should still be there and it’s up to the user to decide. It’s quite true, it should be the users’ choice to choose the settings according to their preference.

Other Users:

Some people suggest that Huawei should add a better notification prompt or note that could notify of high power usage. This will keep them informed about the feature and its effect on battery backup.

HarmonyOS 3.1/EMUI 13.1

Huawei Mate X3 runs HarmonyOS 3.1 out of the box and for global users, it is EMUI 13.1. We currently don’t have a confirmation whether always on display is permanently missing from these latest Huawei software versions.
