Huawei to get new business license extension from the US

Huawei’s second 90 days reprieve will expire on Monday and new reports says that the US government will extend the temporary license for the new timeline.

The US administration is expected to grant a six-month extension for Huawei to provide services to existing customers in the US, reported Politico citing people familiar with the matter.

However, Reuters reported that this extension will be two-week short for the moment and a longer extension is in the works but has not yet been finalized due to regulatory hurdles, said one source who was briefed on the matter.

The extension will be announced on Monday when the earlier reprieve is set to expire, the sources said, declining to be identified as the extension has not been publicly announced.

Back in May, the US Commerce Department added Huawei into the Entity-List and imposed trade restrictions that prohibit it from buying US technologies. The company was then given a 90 days temporary license to serve its existing customers in telecom sectors and update for smartphones, which was expanded for another 90 days in August.

The US commerce secretary – Wilbur Ross previously said that the US department is working on licenses that are likely to allow Huawei to resume purchases technologies such as chips and software services from Google and Microsoft.
