On November 26, Huawei unveils FreeBuds Pro 4 – the first earbuds with HarmonyOS NEXT. It comes in a sleek design with minor changes. But do not worry as the new earphones are full of dynamic features, audio upgrades, and AI capabilities.

FreeBuds Pro 4 unlocks a new design. It has a spectrum silver string finely carved on the ear handles via UV laser. Besides, the charging case shows a ceramic plate on the back which is as solid as rock and overlaps the glossy part of the case.

The new earbuds come in three color schemes: Obsidian Black, Snow White, and Spruce Green. FreeBuds Pro 4 earbuds have a size of 29.1 x 21.8 x 23.7mm and weigh 5.8 grams (each bud). Whereas, the charging case has a dimension of 46.9 x 65.9 x 24.5mm and weighs 47 grams. The full device weighs 165 grams.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 supports the all-new Huawei SOUND tech instead of Devialet. It is an innovative tech that interprets original sound and offers an immersive sound experience. There are two sound effect modes to switch between sound styles.

Apart from key components, the company has upgraded the FreeBuds Pro 4 with L2HC 4.0 codec tech and 2.3Mbps lossless sound transmission. It has obtained HWA lossless and Hi-Res wireless dual high-definition sound quality certification.

Eventually, the device is audible up to 48kHz/24-bit high-quality lossless music. It further has super-sensing dual acoustic drivers and a triple real-time hearing algorithm to perform precise EQ equalization compensation for full-frequency volume.

Other major components of FreeBuds Pro 4 include the Kirin A2 chip that achieves an 8M Bluetooth transmission rate, and spatial audio by HarmonyOS NEXT which reduces the head movement latency by 50% and improves head movement sound by 85%. It brings an ultra-immersive audio experience.

The newly launched earbuds support the HarmonyOS NEXT-based Huawei Music app and bring intelligent features on board. The list counts the following capabilities:

  • Two-way silent call: Answer calls with FreeBuds Pro 4 and experience a clear voice even when you’re in concert.
  • AI noise reduction algorithm: Supports 100dB noise and 10m/s wind speed eliminating environmental sounds even in high-noise scenarios.
  • Three-stage memory earplug: It offers deep noise reduction of up to 30% and lets you hear clearly in noisy environments. It also auto-expands to fit in your ears.
  • Smart tracking: The earbuds can track your head movements to pick up or end a call. Just nod your head to answer and shake to reject.

Long-distance map positioning and floor search help in locating earbuds whereas the lost reminder will send an alert to your phone whenever the audio wearable is disconnected. Apart from these, HarmonyOS NEXT has its own features:

  • AI Interaction with Celia: Celia lets you play music, set alarms, and ask questions in one command. It also supports a translator for better communication.
  • Face-to-face translation: supports unique AI voice conversation and 21 languages.
  • AI volume detectors and reminders: Reminds when the volume for the ear seems dangerous.
  • Smart Charging: The earbuds identify charging habits and control the charging limit. It also extends the battery life by 38%.

Huawei unveils FreeBuds Pro 4 with certain controls. For instance, tapping the device two times will play/pause/switch songs/wake up voice assistant/answer/hangup the call. Tapping it three times lets you jump on the previous/next song.

You can slide to turn up/down the volume whereas long-press the buds to turn on or off the noise reduction/wake-up voice assistant. Press or pinch a single bud to play/pause, answer/hang up the call. Or else, press twice to switch between songs.

The FreeBuds Pro 4 has a lithium-ion polymer of 510mAh for the charging case and a 55mAh cell for the buds. It gets charged within 60 minutes via wired charging and takes around 150 minutes for wireless charging. The overall battery life is 33 hours.
