Huawei tri-fold phone could use outward folding tech and new Kirin chip

Huawei tri-fold phone is in the making and it will likely use a new Kirin chip alongside an outward folding mechanism. A tipster has shed light on the development progress of the world’s first triple-foldable handset as well as its internal capabilities.

The information is coming from the courtesy of @jasonwill on X. As per his post, the Huawei tri-fold phone could use a new Kirin 9 series chip. Even though the processor name is a mystery, it could belong to the flagship 9 series chipset category.

Jason further adds that the triple-foldable phone is seemingly using an advanced outward-folding technology. This mechanism may reduce the hinge and crease-related problems that often ruin the durability aspects of a foldable device.

Note that outward folding ensures a slimmer and lighter design without any additional components. It eliminates creases and allows an entirely flat screen when unfolded. A good example of this mechanism so far is the Huawei Mate Xs 2.

But being in the development stage, the device lacks perfection for the moment. The tipster states that the software adaptation of the new tri-fold phone isn’t flawless, implying that it doesn’t run smoothly on the adapted operating system.

Another flaw is said to be thermal management which seems in progress. Since a thinner body, the tri-folding device may have insufficient cooling for the chip and other internal parameters, resulting in heat management issues if not treated on time.

Yet the device is still under development and the firm will likely solve these problems with better upgrades. Responding to the leak, a netizen said that a quick solution to all these problems is to make this device a foldable tablet instead of a phone.

Huawei vs Samsung and Apple

Some analysts predicted that the world’s first triple foldable phone by Huawei could be a tough competitor against Samsung Z Fold and Apple iPad devices in the market. The Chinese OEM knows how to twist innovation for its products and could use advanced solutions for the tri-fold handset.

The company also applied for a triple-foldable screen tech patent to bring improved visuals, more comfort, and reliability while watching videos or gaming.

Second quarter of this year is about to reach an end but Huawei has not revealed the launch date for its triple-folding device. It looks like we need to wait for some more weeks to catch the official statement on this matter.

Apart from advanced outward folding tech and the new Kirin chip, what else the Huawei tri-fold smartphone will bring to the surface is worth looking forward to.
