Huawei testing power-efficient Taishan cores, faster than Kirin 9000s: Rumor
Huawei is in rumors for working on new Taishan cores that are 175% faster and more power-efficient than Kirin 9000s. If true, we can expect to see the next Kirin chips with significant performance boosts and upgraded energy-saving capabilities.
X tipster @Jasonwill states that Huawei began testing new Taishan cores with even better potential than the Kirin 9000s processor’s cores. These are small cores that carry a similar style to Apple’s small cores.
Jason adds that the new Taishan cores are capable of achieving extremely low power consumption. These cores have allegedly entered Geekbench 5 and scored 350 points for single-core testing. Note that Kirin 9000s cores attained 200 points in this case.
Kirin 9000s uses Cortex-A510 low-energy cores. These are the first ARMv9 ‘LITTLE’ CPU cores. Cortex-A510 claims to offer 35% more performance boost and 20% more power efficiency, compared to the previous-gen A55 cores.
It seems Huawei is considering making the small energy cores finer as well as proficient for its devices. The company is also working on the alleged Kirin PC chip which could adopt the Taishan V130 architecture to match Apple’s M3 performance.
The tipster didn’t reveal for which product these cores are being made. But the term ‘power consumption’ hints that the company could use these cores in smartphones.
Further details imply that Huawei could introduce a new CPU architecture for the upcoming Mate 70 series. The flagship lineup also expected to use a powerful and high-end 5nm chipset, bringing an evolution in the company’s smartphone category.
Although the tech maker has not confirmed any such activity from its side for the unnamed new cores. Hence, let’s take this rumor with a grain of salt for the moment.
Several talks regarding a new Kirin chipset and its CPU architecture are running on the surface these days. Most of them said to make the next-gen processor more powerful than the Kirin 9000s. But these points contradict Huawei’s own statement.
The company said that its current focus is on improving the existing 7nm chips rather than building new technologies. Compared to rivals, Huawei is bound by U.S. sanctions that don’t allow it to use advanced equipment for making new chips.
The overall situation is no less than a puzzle for the time being. Yet new inputs may resolve this confusion in the coming days.
