Huawei has reserved up to 2-year of important US chip, to keep ongoing operations undisturbed: Report

Huawei has stockpiled up to two years of important U.S. semiconductor chips to safeguard its operations from U.S. restrictions on chipset suppliers, reports Nikkei Asian Review.

Source related to matter told that Huawei has reserved crucial processors from Intel and Xilinx for programmable chipsets. These processors are apparently the ‘most essential components’ used in its base stations and cloud engines. (via Gizmochina)

Recently, the U.S. government has put a halt on global chipmakers from supplying chipsets to Huawei. Although, Huawei has its chip design subsidiary -HiSilicon but it requires manufacture those designs from a chipmaker such as TSMC.

On the other hand, Huawei is one of the top clients of these chipmaker and the new US regulations could reflect in their businesses.

In addition, Huawei is reportedly in talks with South Korean NAND and DRAM memory chip makers – Samsung and SK Hynix to provide stable supplies.

A report also reveals that Huawei has boosted its orders for MediaTek chipsets by up to 300% this year. Huawei has recently launched a smartphone – Huawei Enjoy Z 5G powered by MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G processor. The company has planned to ramp up the use in its other upcoming smartphones.

The world’s top telecom equipment maker took this step to prevent hurdles in its upcoming operations.
