Huawei sending new improvements for P30 and Mate 20 series
Huawei is rolling out new software updates for two of its golden flagship devices – Huawei P30 and Mate 20 series with improvements for display, system, and security. This is a long-time coming release for the corresponding models after upgrading to the latest HarmonyOS 4.
Both of these phones are completing 5-6 years of launch and Huawei is still sending new software upgrades to keep them running. Mate 20 and P30 series equipped EMUI 9 and 9.1 respectively during launch.
These phones have garnered a good reputation in the global market. However, in 2020, Huawei announced a different role for the P30 and Mate 20 in China.
The difference this time was to shift users to HarmonyOS compared to global owners who are using the EMUI ecosystem. There may not be a major change in software UI between the two with a recent major upgrade but there’s in the update cycle.
Huawei P30 and Mate 20 devices are receiving more updates than their global counterparts. Simply put, these phones are running EMUI 12 in the global market while their Chinese version is upgraded to HMOS 4. It is equivalent to EMUI 14 and two generations ahead.

Amid all of this discussion, the new software update reflects a boost in user experience. The changelog reveals optimizations for the display software interface. This may improve the overall quality of the UI and remove glitches in some situations.
Next comes system stability improvements for better performance. Lastly, the update will improve the security aspects of the phone using HarmonyOS security patches released in February 2024 for a safer experience.
Based on the rollout details, the new software update carries version 4.0.0.121 and there’s a base version required to upgrade over this new release.
The new display, system, and security improvements for Huawei P30 and Mate 20 come in batches and it may take some to cover all of the eligible devices.
