Huawei reportedly working on various in-display fingerprint sensor solutions
Huawei is seeking a new ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor for its next flagship phones. Meanwhile, a new input suggests that the company also has some self-developed schemes for optical and capacitive under-screen fingerprint scanners.
The Chinese tech giant has recently obtained patent approval for a wide-area ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. As per a few leaks, Huawei might use this advanced solution for the flagship Mate 70 series, which is likely to launch in mid-October this year.
Adding more hints, Weibo tipster @DigitalChatStation says that Huawei is working on its own ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. The post further suggests that rumors regarding Goodix fingerprint technology for Huawei devices seem false.
On the other hand, the tipster cites that the Chinese tech giant has new self-developed algorithms for optical and capacitive under-display scanners which may bring impressive capabilities for the next-generation premium handsets.
- Optical – It is a common in-display fingerprint sensor with a finite resolution and captures a 2D picture of your fingerprint while scanning.
- Capacitive – These are generally side-mounted sensors and are good for folding phones. It uses tiny capacitor circuits to collect data and has additional security benefits.
- Ultrasonic – Unlike the other two sensors, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is an emerging technology. It is the most secure option and works even when your fingers are dirty or wet.

Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor leaked details
Another tipster named @BeijingDigitalMaster says that Huawei won’t take much time to present the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and we may see it with the Mate 70 series. This solution could be smaller in size but with a higher recognition rate.
Perhaps, Huawei is developing its own fingerprint solutions for next flagship devices. While many tech vendors are relying upon other suppliers, the Chinese tech maker will likely introduce self-developed fingerprint sensor solutions, which will make it a leading firm in this subject.
