Amid the U.S.-China chip war, a report says Huawei is trying to hire TSMC engineers with a tempting salary. The former is doing so to fill its chip manufacturing business with talented and skilled workers who can contribute to the company’s growth.

U.S. authorities are investigating TSMC for having any hidden chip bonds with Huawei. However, a new input is making this matter even more complicated.

French publication – Le Monde states that Huawei has been trying to hire TSMC chip engineers with mouthwatering salary, every few months. An anonymous agency that comes under the tech giant, has been sending emails to these workers.

Some of the engineers received emails asking “Would you consider new opportunities? We are looking for someone with your experience”. But they didn’t respond.

If true, a major reason behind this step is to rely on those who can help the company with chip improvements. Huawei has been restricted from using new and advanced tools for chipmaking. These sanctions ultimately pushed it back from its rivals.

Even though the company managed and served some good 5G processors, it still requires new tech to pace up in the smartphone market. Simply put, it needs talent who knows how to make modern chip designs and help the firm with the same.

The report further reads that Huawei is offering these engineers three times the salary of their current pay. However, TSMC workers continue to deny it as they fear for their careers. Eventually, those working with a US-sanctioned firm may not get jobs in the future, if Huawei ever throws them out.

One of the engineers named Chen said, “I never respond”. She added that it seems like risking her career for a three-times salary and doesn’t feel worth it.

Huawei is trying every possible trick that can make it progress in the chip game. However, how far these efforts will prove successful would be worth looking at.
